The Diocese of Moosonee of the Anglican Church of Canada, covers some 560,000 square kilometres straddling northeastern Ontario and northwestern Quebec and is set in “an almost unbelievable land…of forests and lake and rivers with mountains and muskeg and desolate tundra” (Olive MacKay Petersen).
Moosonee Diocese is divided into two “Deaneries”. The southern portion known as “Watershed Deanery” consists of communities historically founded on the lumber, mining and rail industries. The northern portion surrounds the James Bay with large, vibrant mainly First Nations communities of the Cree Nation. Throughout the Diocese today all communities boast modern industrial, social media structures and communities are served by good highways and modern, well-maintained airlines.
The churches across our Diocese, served by well-trained clergy and lay-leaders and committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, rise daily to the challenges of providing compassionate and spiritual care to all our people in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. If you are travelling or living in our area you are welcome to join us.
