Dear friends in Christ,
The Cree community of Waswanapi, Quebec is in mourning today following the tragic deaths of five members of the community in a head on collision between a pickup truck and a van on Route 113 about 700 kms north of Montreal. The names of the deceased are not known at this time but all were highly involved in Waswanapi.
We have reached out to Canon Cliff Dee to offer our deepest condolences and the assurance of our love and prayers to the families of all who have died. May those who have died Rest In Peace and may their rest this day be in the eternal arms of Jesus.
Let us pray:
“Lord Jesus Christ, who weeps with us now, we pray for those whose lives have been devastated by the tragic accident in Chapais. We pray for those who have lost their lives so suddenly that they will find a place in your eternal kingdom. We hold in our hearts the families forever changed by grief and loss. Bring them consolation and comfort. Surround them with the prayers of the whole church for strength and give them courage to face the difficult days ahead. Bless the first responders and others who witnessed the tragedy and rendered aid. Heal their memories of trauma and devastation. Help us to respond with generosity in prayer, in assistance and in comfort to the best of our abilities. We pray for the leaders of Waswanapi, especially Chief Neeposh and Canon Cliff Dee, that they may be given the gifts of wisdom and fortitude to lead with love. All this we pray in your precious name. Amen.”
