Foleyet is a small town approximately 100km west of Timmins and East of Chapleau, with a population of approximately 275 people. St. John’s church was built in the early 1900’s along with the town. The CNR wanted to build a railroad and hired as contractors, the Foley Brothers for the build. A little town rose up in the territory as the railroad construction was taking place. The brothers really wanted the town to hold their name, but there was already a town named Foley and so it goes they said “We’ll name this place Foley yet!” said the Brothers, and as it appears, the term stuck. The Anglican ministry in Foleyet is shared with Chapleau.
