About this parish:
St. John the Evangelist is located in a First Nations Community which has a population of about 3,500 people. Church patterns in First Nations communities are sometimes in reverse to the predominant norm. Mistissini originally served as a summer gathering place and then, in the fall, small groups would disperse for hunting and trapping. Even now the community (and the congregation) shrinks noticeably in April during the annual goose hunt. St. John the Evangelist is a place where people have a strong sense of their baptismal ministry. We are a people united by the Spirit to work together for the good of our parish family, to reach out to the rest of the community and to build the body of Christ. We endeavor to be a welcoming, nurturing and worshiping community which demonstrates by word and deed the love of Jesus Christ in all creation.
